What’s up, doc?

Our next Meet the Team blog post is here! In this occasion, we visit again the Art team to get some insights into what happens behind the 3D scenes for World of Mayhem.

Meet 3D Artist Rafael!

What do you do as a 3D artist?

My work consists of making 3D characters and props, managing our 3D freelancer collaborators, and always collaborating with the team, bringing new options and points of view to other game areas.

What’s that you love about World of Mayhem and the franchise?

What I like most about the franchise is that it reminds me of when I was a child and the good times I had, as well as the good humor of the cartoons and the fun it keeps delivering to this very day. About the game, what I like the most is working with characters that I’ve known since childhood and that brought me (and still bring!) so many moments of joy.

Also, I’ve played a lot with Tazos in my childhood, if I wasn’t watching Looney Tunes on TV, I was having a good time with my friends playing that little game. Despite the fun part, it is a big responsibility to work with these characters, because they are world-famous, and we need to satisfy the expectations of many people.

To me, having the opportunity to do this is very rewarding, so I always get very happy when I see that the community is enjoying it.

What are you currently working on?

At the moment I am working on the 3D models of exciting characters to come! Besides that, I am working on 3D Documentation Guidelines to be used for new members of the team in the future.

If you were a toon, who would you be?

I would probably be a junction of two toons, Taz and Egghead.

I like how Egghead solves problems, and, since I’ve watched a lot of Taz cartoons, I have a special fondness for him. Not to mention that I’m usually hungry too…

Which are your favorite World of Mayhem toons?

Those would probably be Nasty Canasta, Henery Hawk, Bugs Bunny, and Taz.

And what about your favorite team composition of Mayhem?

I don’t have a specific team, I like to make the team according to each situation.

Any cool development moments you want to share?

There are a lot of funny moments with this great team. About our daily routine, I really like when the team is relaxed and we start talking nonsense. It’s great to relax and I believe it helps a lot in our productivity.

The most nonsensical moments usually happen at lunch and after 6 pm, so you know, if one day you get to visit us, come prepared and at your own risk!

So we’re about to finish this – anything else you wanna add?

I know it sounds cliché, but my message is that you work in what you love. In my case, art has always been in my life: my mother was a painter and my father is a musician. So pursuing something today that has to do with art makes me quite happy.

If you don’t know what you like, no problem! Just keep looking and I’m sure you’ll find it. When that happens, dedicate yourself by heart and soul, and don’t be afraid to take a few steps back to change your path. In the end, you’ll see that it was worth it.

I want to thank all the people who helped me to be here today: teachers, friends and especially my wife Débora, who always encourages and supports me. You guys are great and make my world more colorful and happy.

Please, if I can help you in any way in your artist journey do not hesitate to contact me. Big hugs and all the best!!
