What’s up, doc?

Our next Meet the Team post is here. Have you ever wondered what a community manager does for an online game?

Keep on reading then!

Meet Community Manager, Haruki

So what do you do as a Community Manager?

I tell you what I don’t do: I don’t code the game…

Jokes (and reality) aside, a community manager is basically the point of contact between the community and the development team. This works both ways. On the one hand, I feed you guys with everything there is to know about the game and upcoming plans and events. And on the other, I relay all the ongoing feedback and suggestions to the team.

When not typing blog posts or feedback reports, I take care of our social media platforms, craft videos for our YouTube channel, organize sweepstakes and other community activities and events, network with the Ambassadors and content creators, chat over Discord…

Community managers tend to multitask a lot, I believe. Hardly every day is the same, which is one of the things I like the most about my job. The other one is the ability to encapsulate what I want to say in a single, beautiful GIF.

What’s that you love about World of Mayhem and the franchise?

I grew up as a kid watching these cartoons on Sunday mornings on the Spanish TV. For me, it’s just unbelievable how big and long-lasting this IP is, and how pervading it has been, connecting people across the globe around certain characters, situations, and gags. It’s hard to explain but I guess nostalgia plays a huge part in here. When I knew I had landed the job I started watching some of the iconic cartoons and it was like taking a trip down Memory Lane… Rediscovering all those scenes that I had forgot, somehow, but were coming right at me at that moment.

So naturally, it was enticing to know there was a hero-collector mobile game coming with all these characters – I wanted to be part of it. One of the things I like the most about Looney Tunes is how irreverent and whacky they are, which in turn gives me licenses when interacting with the community or posting on social media. I know I can push the line a little but this is because I know players and followers will understand. We’re all playing the same game.

What are you currently working on?

On the creative side, I am working on some more toon reveals for YouTube, a future Ask Me Anything video and also, some Summer Sweepstakes to look forward to. I am also working on official communications about upcoming features and events. Stay tuned to the blog for those!

If you were a toon, who would you be?

King Bugs, obviously!

Look at him. His demeanor and ease, he’s sitting right where he belongs. It’s all about the way his eyes contemplate reality around him, almost like a zen master. Like he’d say: “the pun is mightier than the sword”.

Which are your favorite World of Mayhem toons?

Henery Hawk and Henery Hike will always have a soft spot in my heart – because of their amazing animations and portable size. I remember editing their skill reveal videos for our YouTube channel and giggling all the time while doing so… Ah, priceless.

I was quite happy when I learned that O’Pat was gonna make his debut – I’ve always liked the idea of those nasty leprechauns, loved his original episode, and the characterization is absolutely on point here. I also like Astronaut Sylvester (best Common ever), Tasmanian She-Devil (best jackpot ever), and Wildcard Wolf /Bat Suit Wile (best outfits ever).

But in the end, all of them would pale in comparison with Marc Anthony and Pussyfoot… Let’s touch wood for this duo to happen, folks!

And what about your favorite team composition of Mayhem?

Right now I am going through a Damage Over Time phase and playing around with Witch Hazel, Pepe Le Pew, Devil Dog, and Valkyrie Bugs. Another team that I use a lot is composed of our original monsters: so Gossamer, Monster Foghorn, Dr. Dawgstein and Ralph the Vampire.

Lots of times I just go for combinations of regional toons that, while not being necessarily top-synergistic, still make my heart happy. So for an Avalooney-based team, I go for Gossamer/Friar Porky, Pepe Le Bard, Black Knight Sam, and Daffy Hood. For a Desert-based one: Desperado Dawg, Barkeep Sheepdog, Wildcard Wolf, and Outlaw Foghorn.

Any cool behind-the-scenes moments you want to share?

I remember when I joined the team, we would need to make all these tips&tricks videos and AMA intros and outros… but the office we had back then was always a beehive, full of activity and people buzzing around. Our office managers would be holding the front on the corridor and next to the kitchen then, like a pair of valkyries, while our video editors and I would be shooting the scenes. Try telling people not to go and fetch their first-morning coffee at rush hour. It’s… hard. But we prevailed, somehow!

I’ve lived through some very funny moments when seeing some fan art submissions for our contests that had nothing to do with World of Mayhem or the LT franchise for that matter. There once was this beautifully framed picture of a hyper-realistic blue parrot, surrounded by lush leaves. Maybe part of a Tasmanian fauna scene? I’ll never know.

There was also this time when we were brainstorming ideas to kick off our a schedule of live streams (I’d love to make those happen in the near future, by the way), and someone mentioned we should buy some furry costumes to spice things up. I almost bought one for Tweety… almost (no, I don’t think I’ll be buying one now).

So we’re about to finish this – anything else you wanna add?

Thanks for reading, and for participating in our community platforms (social media, Reddit, Discord). In the end, you guys are the heart that keeps the game alive and kicking! Please keep on creating memes, overusing emojis, and typing your thoughts out!

Also, a big shoutout to our amazing team of Looney Ambassadors and Maestros of Content. Sometimes we don’t appreciate everything that they do (keeping the community engaged, entertained, informed), but they are always there and their energy is a beacon of light for us all. Thanks for everything you do, folks!
